20mph zones do save lives

Jules Pipe's decision to introduce 20mph speed limits on local streets has been proven to be a life saver.

Researchers have found it cuts road injuries by a huge 40%.

The 20mph zones are particularly useful in saving young children from death and injury, according to researchers from the University of London.

Reductions are greatest for younger children (aged up to 11 years), and higher for the category of killed or seriously injured casualties than for those suffering minor injuries.

The entire De Beauvoir area was one of the first parts of Hackney to have the zones introduced after lobbying by councillors and local residents.
