Occupy Encampment in Shoreditch Park

A number of De Beauvoir residents have been in contact about the Occupy protestors who have set up camp in Shoreditch Park.

Council Officers are currently speaking to the members of the camp and seeking to move them on from the park. If they do not do so, the Council will look to use legal means in order to ensure this happens. It is not possible to put a definitely timescale on this but, for comparison, another branch of Occupy that moved onto Haggerston Park earlier this year was moved off the park within 12 days.

Shoreditch Park has no connection with the City of London or the causes that Occupy are seeking to protest about. The park sits in one of the poorest areas of one of the poorest boroughs in London. It is one of the few public spaces in the area, and is really valued by the local community many of who do not have outside space of their own - it is not similar to the sites in the City that Occupy have previously occupied.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
