Estate agent told to take down misleading signs

Estate agent Douglas Allen has been instructed by Hackney Council to remove misleading advertising boards from the De Beauvoir area.

When confronted by Hackney Commercial Standards officers, Douglas Allen aknowledged the complaint - made by local councillors - and will now remove misleading adverts on De Beauvoir Road.

If you see Douglas Allen, or any other estate agent, repeat this offence in our area please get in touch with local councillors or Commercial Standards officers at Hackney Council.

It is not permitted for estate agents to use the practice known as 'Hoax Boarding' on any property operated by Hackney Homes.

Safer crossing for Southgate Road and Baring Street

Councillors have sucessfully campaigned with residents and local schools to see funding made available for a zebra crossing to be introduced on Baring Street, at the bottom of Southgate Road.

This is an extremely busy road used by schoolchildren and parents at often the busiest times of the day.

We're delighted with this outcome - being on the border of two boroughs, it involved often complex negotiations between our own Labour Hackney and Lib Dem run Islington.

There will be a statutory consultation on the safety improvements. If you'd like to take part in that consultation, or would like further information, please get in touch.

Councillors get residents their tree back

A few weeks ago we were on a walkabout on Lockner Estate and were told by residents on Wareham Court that a small but much loved tree had been removed by contractors.

We followed this up and are pleased to say we now have agreement from Hackney Environmental Services that two new trees will be planted on Friday.

Party in the Park

2008's Party in the Park in De Beauvoir Square was yet another triumph.

Organised by the De Beauvoir Association the event saw hundreds of local people enjoy a fantastic day out with a jazz band, bouncy castle, magic shows, children's story telling and even free massage.

Our local police, fire and ambulance services came along and allowed young people to try out a real life fire engine and ambulance.

Despite terrible weather all week, the sun came out for De Beauvoir and stayed there until the very last raffle ticket was drawn at the end of the day.
